Google's Blogger and Feeds From it

It occurred to me that if i am setting up a blog for a customer, to be used by a totally non-techy user, then it has to be best to give them the slick and intuitive interface of google's own Blogger system. The Blogger posts would then be exported as a 'feed' to the GetSimple pages.

The GS Blog I am using here should import an RSS feed and I have a blogger account from a past life so I am going to use this site to test it out.

About GetSimple Blogs

This isn't the first blog I have installed on a GS site. I am still tweaking some of the settings. If you ask the GetSimple Development team they will say that GetSimple is not a blogging platform and it's true there are easier ways to blog, but these days if you are even faintly interested in appearing in a search engine listing there are a few things which have to be done. One of them is update your site often, - not necessarily every day but often enough. Google is right in my opinion that sites which don't change are dull and deserve lower rankings. People don't like static and stale sites any more than bots do, so install the plugin and get writing.

So you want a blog. There are two reasonably reliable Blog plugins for GS, the GSBlog and the News Manager (updated). The News manager has been around longer and is stable and mature. The GS Blog has more features but also a couple of minor bugs. Either is a good choice. Further down the list at GS Extend you will find plugins no longer supported and projects that showed early promise but are now abandoned. Beginners sometimes poist plaintive requests on the GS Forum for help with these redundant plugins not knowing that the developer has long gone and the file should really have been deleted. BTW if you are looking for the News Manager plugin make sure you get the updated version and not the old two year old file further down the list.

Out of the Blocks

This is a first post and as such is just a bit of dummy text:

A cold coming we had of it,
Just the worst time of the year
For a journey, and such a journey:
The ways deep and the weather sharp,
The very dead of winter.’
And the camels galled, sore-footed,
     refractory,
Lying down in the melting snow.
There were times we regretted
The summer palaces on slopes, the
     terraces,
And the silken girls bringing sherbet.
